NORTH CANTON, Ohio - Top seed Ohio Dominican completed a perfect run through the NAIA Region IX Women’s Tennis Tournament by shutting out #2 Walsh, 5-0, in the championship match. The Panthers advance to the 28th Annual NAIA Women’s National Championship in Mobile, Ala. on May 12-16.
ODU, 13-4 overall, took control after sweeping the three doubles matches and then clinched the win with straight-set victories at #1 and #2 singles. The contest was moved indoors to the North Canton Racquet Club because of the weather.
Ohio Dominican reached the final with an easy 9-0 decision over #4 Roberts Wesleyan in the semifinals. Walsh was equally as impressive following an 8-1 win versus #3 seed Cedarville.
The Panthers, who also won the AMC Championship, had four players named to the All-AMC Team led by senior Kristen Gillman in both singles and doubles. ODU’s Ryan Beigle was named the AMC Coach of the Year.
